Why you Can’t Pre-Order an iPhone 4– Frenzy/Fraud Cause AT&T failure
Okay, so maybe you CAN’T pre-order your iPhone4…what a mess! There were clues that there were problems: The Apple website repeatedly stalled out while checking my upgrade eligibility…Something was fishy when I couldn’t login on the AT&T wireless website because it said it was doing maintenance…and now reports are out that AT&T and Apple have cancelled their online ordering due to 10 times more orders than they expected, and a fraud security problem (as Gizmodo reported). And there are serious problems for those people who were able to order…
So, I wouldn’t hold out much hope that you’ll be able to order online until after the first release on June 24th. And it stands to reason that the lines to buy an iPhone 4 will be long on June 24th (which is only a week away). And if you did order, you better re-check it and still cross your fingers that it’ll arrive as expected…
Seems that if you did order an iPhone4, better re-check the shipping address as reported to Gizmodo yesterday.
There were also problems with the wrong account information being shown to people trying to order.
Gizmodo posted an offiial AT&T statement:
“Phone 4 pre-order sales yesterday were 10-times higher than the first day of pre-ordering for the iPhone 3G S last year. Consumers are clearly excited about iPhone 4, AT&T’s more affordable data plans and our early upgrade pricing.
Given this unprecedented demand and our current expectations for our iPhone 4 inventory levels when the device is available June 24, we’re suspending pre-ordering today in order to fulfill the orders we’ve already received.”
