iPhone Hijack is No Hoax – Beware of certain type of text message
While it seems like these types of warnings are conspiracy theories and scare tactics, it seems this iPhone warning is real. By sending a text message to an iPhone, hackers are able to hijack the phone. When hijacked, a phone cannot make or receive phone calls, or get onto the internet. It also leaves you vulnerable to identity theft… Here’s the story.
If you own an iPhone and receive a text message with a square (or other weird symbol I would imagine), shut the phone off immediately. I haven’t heard anything more on this (like do you turn the phone back on? call Apple? What do you do next?)
Mashable has posted more details.
While researching this blog, I noticed that there has been various hijacking iPhone threats over the past few years so I don’t know how prevalent or serious this threat will beother than that it is being reported by reputable international news agencies.
All I know is, that if I see a square on a text message…I will push the power button on top, slide the phone to power off, and call Apple. Stay tuned.
