Back Up your old iPhone then connect iPhone 3G(s) and restore

I have a ton of apps on my old iPhone. Many apps are customized with login information and preferences and I would hate to have to redo all of that when I sync’d my new phone…in fact, would my purchased apps even work?

When I ordered the new iPhone, I had some ordering problems (my credit card company thought there was a dual billing when it was that I was replacing 2 iPhones). So I seized the opportunity to speak to an Apple Care tech support rep and posed the question to him…

How do I transfer all of my settings from the old iPhone to the new one?

Connect your old iPhone to your computer. When you see it show up in the left column of iTunes, right click on it. One choice will be to “backup” your phone. Click on it and back up the phone.

When you get the new iphone 3G (s). Connect it to the same iTunes library and right click on it, this time choosing restore from backup.

The Apple Care guy assures me that it will only restore the information and not the operating system.

Hope it works. It would be a hassle to redo all the preferences and logins on my apps. Will keep you posted.
